Potential Risks of Orthodontic TreatmentAll kinds of orthodontic treatment cause minor or major changes to your teeth roots. Sometimes, risks are inevitable, especially when it comes to complex procedures. However, there are many ways to prevent and counter risks in different types of orthodontic treatments.

At Newport Dental Group, Dr. Saghatchi and canshare all the risks regarding your procedure and help you mitigate them accordingly.

What is Orthodontic Treatment?

Orthodontic treatment involves diagnosing, preventing, and fixing teeth and jaw malposition. Procedures include braces treatment, tooth extraction, oral surgery, and fitting other dental appliances such as headgear, palatal expanders, and retainers.

What are the Chances of Successful Orthodontic Treatment?

To ensure successful orthodontic treatment, you must commit to it by looking after your teeth and brace by following the dentist's instructions. As long as you regularly visit the dentist to adjust the braces, they can make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. This will significantly boost your chances of successful orthodontic treatment.

Potential Risks of Orthodontic Treatment

Unfortunately, some patients experience complications during or after their treatment. For instance, the dentist will ask you to wear retainers for some time. If you don't follow their instructions, your teeth might not look like the patient on the leaflet. Secondly, you should expect some teeth movement after retainer removal. This is normal and part of the aging process.

Moreover, most patients experience a little redness and swelling initially while wearing a brace. This problem usually disappears over time as long as you brush your teeth regularly and watch what you eat and drink. If you regularly consume sugary food and drinks, you also risk ending up with stains or marks on your teeth.

At Newport Dental Group, Dr. Saghatchi or can answer all your questions regarding and guide you on how to take care of your teeth and gums after treatment. To schedule an appointment with us, call us at (949) 574-0100 today.
