Water Newport Dental Group CA 92627When you want to have really good oral health, then you want to make sure you drink a lot of water. One of the reasons that people are told to drink eight glasses of water each day is to help maintain optimal oral health.

This helps to keep your oral tissues moist, and rinse debris and bacteria from your teeth as you drink. The more water you consume, the better. Plus, your teeth can take nutrients they need from the water as you drink it.

What Do Your Teeth Get Out of Water?

The biggest thing your teeth get from water is fluoride. This comes from treated water or bottled water that has had fluoride added into it. This soaks into your teeth as you drink the water, protecting them. Teeth thrive when they have a fluoride coating because it helps to ward off cavities.

The wetter your oral tissues stay, the better as well. When you get dry mouth, you are far more susceptible to things like gum disease. If you can keep your oral tissues moist, then they are better able to defend themselves against things like bacteria.

Your teeth are also less likely to get cavities if you drink lots of water. As you drink water, you swallow any debris that's in your mouth, leftover from the foods you ate throughout the day. This keeps it from doing any damage to your teeth. The more you drink, the cleaner your mouth stays.

To figure out other ways that water helps improve your oral health, come in and see us. We would love to teach you ways to improve your oral health because that makes our job easier and you happier to come visit us. Call us today and schedule your next exam and cleaning.
